Understanding the Economy — One Conversation at a Time
⸻

🚀 Launch Episode 2!
Here comes our second step into the real world — and it’s all about something we feel every day, but rarely stop to understand.
⸻
🎙️ Welcome Back to 3 Junior — Episode 2 Is Here!
Hi again! We’re so excited to share our second episode with you. After diving into the world of anesthesiology, we’re switching gears to something that’s just as important — but often misunderstood: economics.
In this episode, we ask the questions that most of us are too shy (or too bored) to ask:
Why are prices always rising? What is inflation? And why does it feel like everything is getting more expensive lately?
To answer all of this (and more), we invited Aylin, an economist who’s passionate about making the economy easier to understand — especially for students like us.
From snacks and savings to school and future careers, the economy shapes our lives in more ways than we realize. And this episode is all about making sense of it.
⸻
📌 What We Talked About: Key Insights from the Interview
🔹 What even is “the economy”?
Aylin explained it in the simplest terms: it’s about how people, money, and choices connect — from local shops to global markets.
🔹 Why does it matter to teens?
Even if we’re not paying bills yet, things like inflation, recession, and job markets affect our futures — from university costs to the careers we’ll have.
🔹 Inflation, unemployment, crisis — simplified.
We asked her to break down big terms that sound scary. And she did — with relatable examples, real-life stories, and a little humor.
🔹 Math matters. So does curiosity.
She talked about how school subjects like business, math, and even social studies connect directly to understanding the economy — and the world.
🔹 One big myth?
That economics is just for “finance bros” or business people. It’s actually something everyone lives with — every single day.

🎯 Mini Project: Teen Budget Challenge
Inspired by this episode, we created a fun and eye-opening classroom activity called:
“Teen Budget Challenge: Living on a Monthly Budget.”
🧩 Here’s how it works:
– Imagine you’re living on your own and earning a basic income.
– Create a monthly budget: housing, food, transport, hobbies, savings.
– Then, surprise! An economic twist: inflation hits or rent rises — now adjust your budget again.
📚 Why do it?
It helps teens (including us!) understand how fast financial plans can change. It builds empathy, financial literacy, and real-world awareness — all through one simple simulation.

💬 Final Thoughts
This episode reminded us that economics isn’t just about numbers and charts — it’s about real people, choices, and daily realities.
Whether you’re saving for the weekend or dreaming big about your future career, understanding how the economy works gives you power.
